biota: the animals, plants, fungi, etc., of a region or period.
It was morel season about the time I started this series. In years past we’ve been the envy of friends for our ability to walk to the front yard and pick enough morel mushrooms to fill a large bowl. Either said friends were sneaking into our yard at night or we just over-picked the year before.
